Functional Communication Training (FCT)

When children struggle to express their needs, it can lead to frustration—for them and for you. Functional Communication Training (FCT) helps children learn better, more appropriate ways to communicate, so they no longer need to rely on challenging behaviors to get their message across.

At OWL Behavior Analysis Practice, we start by identifying what your child is trying to communicate through their behavior—whether it’s asking for help, avoiding a task, or getting attention. Then, we teach them simple, meaningful communication skills that work for them, whether it’s using words, pictures, signs, or communication devices.

FCT empowers your child to be heard and understood, which reduces stress and builds confidence. We’ll work closely with you to practice these skills in real-life situations, making communication easier at home, in school, and in the community. Together, we’ll help your child connect with others in a positive and effective way.
